Evidence of ‘two plasmon’ decay of energetic particle induced geodesic acoustic mode

چکیده

Abstract Secondary low frequency mode generation by energetic particle induced geodesic acoustic (EGAM) observed in LHD experiment is studied using nonlinear gyrokinetic theory. It found that the EGAM can be significantly higher than local (GAM) collisionality plasmas, and it decay into two GAMs as its approaches twice GAM frequency, a process analogous to well-known plasmon instability. The condition for this occur also discussed.

Energetic-particle-induced geodesic acoustic mode.

A new energetic particle-induced geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) is shown to exist. The mode frequency and mode structure are determined nonperturbatively by energetic particle kinetic effects. In particular the EGAM frequency is found to be substantially lower than the standard GAM frequency. The radial mode width is determined by the energetic particle drift orbit width and can be fairly large ...

Finite-Orbit-Width Effects on Energetic-Particle-Induced Geodesic Acoustic Mode∗)

We identify linear properties of the energetic-particle-induced geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) using eigenmode analysis based on the gyrokinetic theory. From the perturbed gyrokinetic equation with energetic particles, we derive a dispersion relation of the EGAM. The behaviors of the roots vary depending on the safety factor. Taking into account of the finite-orbit-width (FOW) effects, we examin...

Impact of energetic-particle-driven geodesic acoustic modes on turbulence.

The impact on turbulent transport of geodesic acoustic modes excited by energetic particles is evidenced for the first time in flux-driven 5D gyrokinetic simulations using the Gysela code. Energetic geodesic acoustic modes (EGAMs) are excited in a regime with a transport barrier in the outer radial region. The interaction between EGAMs and turbulence is such that turbulent transport can be enha...

Linear Properties and Nonlinear Frequency Chirping of Energetic Particle Driven Geodesic Acoustic Mode in LHD

Linear Properties and nonlinear frequency chirping of energetic particle driven geodesic acoustic mode (EGAM) is investigated using a hybrid simulation code for energetic particles interacting with a magnetohydrodynamic fluid. It is found that the EGAM is a global mode with the spatially uniform oscillation frequency. The poloidal mode numbers of poloidal velocity fluctuation, plasma density fl...

Potential Fluctuation Associated with Energetic-Particle Induced Geodesic Acoustic Mode in Reversed Magnetic Shear Plasmas on LHD

Geodesic acoustic mode(GAM) driven by energetic particles are observed in the Large Helical Device by a heavy ion beam probe. The GAM frequency shifts upward in plasmas with monotonic magnetic shear. In plasmas with reversed magnetic shear, on the other hand, the observed GAM and the energetic-particle induced mode, which is probably reversed-shear induced Alfvén Eigenmode(RSAE), appears, and t...
